Has your company taken steps to reduce the noise of freight deliveries? Have you developed technology, equipment or operations to reduce noise impact? If so, make sure you enter the Quiet Logistics category at the Noise Abatement Society’s (NAS) John Connell Awards, sponsored by FTA, one of the UK’s leading business organisations which leads on logistics with more than 17,000 members.

With the ceremony to be held at the Palace of Westminster on 24 October 2018, these prestigious awards recognise the importance of sound quality and reward organisations committed to reducing noise pollution. Now in its 17th year, the ceremony will be hosted by Colonel Bob Stewart DSO, MP for Beckenham. Nominations close on 14 September 2018 with the shortlist announced on 25 September 2018.

The Quiet Logistics category is open to operators, vehicle manufacturers, trailer-makers, bodybuilders and ancillary equipment suppliers which have created quieter products, services and programmes to facilitate safe, low-noise and efficient urban distribution services in the past year.

Natalie Chapman , Head of South of England and Urban Policy, FTA commented: “FTA and the Noise Abatement Society share a common goal: reducing noise pollution on UK’s streets. That’s why we are proud to sponsor the Quiet Logistics award once again – to champion the operators, manufacturers and equipment suppliers demonstrating dedication, innovation and leadership in managing noise pollution.

“The Quiet Logistics award is an invaluable opportunity for any company committed to noise-reduction to showcase its expertise and commitment and set a high standard for the rest of the industry.”

Gloria Elliott OBE, Chief Executive of the NAS added: “FTA has shown a real affinity to the values and aims of NAS so we are thrilled it’s sponsoring the Quiet Logistics award for another year. FTA and its members have proved their dedication to reducing the noise of freight deliveries wherever possible, making them the perfect partner to support us in this award.”

The other categories open for nominations at the John Connell Awards are:

Local authority award
Soundscape award
Innovation award
Silent approach Quiet Mark™ award distinction

Efficient logistics is vital to keep Britain trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc.  A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to Government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.

The Noise Abatement Society (NAS) is a dynamic UK charity whose aim is to share a better understanding of what sound is, how it affects us and how we can solve noise problems in a pragmatic and sustainable way. Its internationally respected work helps to relieve the physical and mental distress caused by excessive noise which profoundly affects health and wellbeing, learning, productivity and social cohesion.
