The construction of one of Liverpool’s newest “Dual-temp distribution centres” is progressing at a rapid pace. A new depot for the food logistics specialist Nagel Langdons is being built on a 7.4 acre site at Knowsley. The modern chilled logistics facility is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2019 and will provide storage space for 5,000 frozen and 100 chilled pallets, in addition to capacity for cross-docking and load assembly.
The logistics company Nagel Langdons has been operating a depot in Liverpool since 2008. Chris Davies, Northern General Manager from Nagel Langdons explains, “Our existing facility has reached its capacity. Unfortunately, it was not possible to expand our operations at the current site.” The company decided to look for a new site in order to respond to the growing needs of its customers.
The new facility is being built at a nearby site. “We decided to build a new depot and remain in Liverpool because of its strategical location and good transport links. With the construction of the new facility, we effectively double our warehouse and cross-docking capability and are well positioned for further growth. The additional space allows us to expand our capacity for handling chilled and frozen food products and what we can offer our customers.” says Davies.
The new facility is being built by Marshall Construction Group. “Optimised cladding and insulation have been designed for the facility in accordance with industry standards for food logistics. Additionally, innovative refrigeration technology which minimise use of coolants and recovers heat more effectively is being installed.”
The completion of the new facility is scheduled for the first quarter in 2019. The temperature controlled warehouse will feature 87,000 sq ft of warehouse space and 3,500 sq ft of office space. The existing staff will move to the new facility in 2019. In the long term the facility will create new jobs especially for warehouse staff and drivers.
