Martyn Cogan from TCS&D magazine was delighted to meet with Phil Ewbank, Chairman of Commercial Contract Engineers (CCE) and Steve Vincent, Head of Aftermarket for Schmitz Cargobull UK and Ireland, at the CCE depot in Rochdale.
During their meeting, Vincent was delighted to explain that CCE (as one of the network of Schmitz Cargobull’s Service Partners) are now working in partnership with the manufacturer on the repair and maintenance of Schmitz Cargobull’s trailers across the UK and Ireland.
This means that Schmitz Cargobull’s UK and Irish customers will have instant access to maintenance support, mitigating the need to wait for parts or servicing support.
Vincent says: “Our aim is to replicate for trailers the sort of service you see from the tractor unit manufacturers. The market deserves more than just capital equipment – you should be able to access a whole series of support services to help you maximise the value you get from your trailer.”
With an extensive network of 60 service partners across the UK, and a further 1,700 across mainland Europe, Schmitz Cargobull is making sure that its customers have a trouble-free service and maintenance package. As Europe’s largest trailer manufacturer, the benefit of this new partnership will be experienced by many, with 68,000 units produced in the last financial year alone.
Vincent explains: “Today’s fleet managers are increasingly tech-savvy, so we want our network to be able to support them and provide a consistent, high level of service wherever they are. CCE provides exactly that service so we’re very pleased to have them.”
Commercial Contract Engineers has been at the forefront of car and commercial vehicle repairs for since its foundation in 1981 and with a 33,000sq ft state of the art repair facility, it is fully prepared to handle the demand from the UK refrigerated trailer market.
The company joined the Schmitz Cargobull Service Partner network in 2017 after demonstrating it met a number of strict assessment criteria, including having a team of specially trained technicians who can repair, maintain and optimise the German manufacturer’s equipment. Since then, CCE has quickly established itself as a flagship provider of maintenance services for the manufacturer’s trailers.
Ewbank says: “We’ve really defined ourselves over the years by offering high quality engineering, backed by excellent customer service – and that has helped us to grow substantially.”
CCE’s experience has enabled the company to sustain growth in the market by offering a ‘Total Service Package’ all under one roof. Included in their offer is the ability to retrofit Schmitz Cargobull’s telematics to any trailer.
Plus with the training provided by Schmitz Cargobull, CCE’s 45-strong team is fully qualified to maintain the Schmitz Cargobull trailer, including its telematics systems.
Phil Ewbank explains that CCE offer an amazing 60-80 minute typical recovery, supported by four recovery vehicles available 24/7/365. Meanwhile customers who require spares for their Schmitz Cargobull trailers can expect to receive replacement parts in two hours.
To keep customers on the road, Commercial Contract Engineers also offers a courtesy Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated trailer – a first for Service Partners in the UK and Ireland – and has two tractor units available.
The courtesy trailer is a unit that has been fully refurbished by CCE, demonstrating the business’s capabilities, while also ensuring that customers avoid a loss of revenue when their own trailers are off the road.
Ewbank says: “We like to be innovative and offer quality engineering, so our partnership with Schmitz Cargobull is a good fit for our business. As a Service Partner, we can now provide multiple new services to temperature-controlled logistics providers – whether it’s parts, recovery or repair.”
Vincent concludes: “Companies like CCE exemplify the new face of Schmitz Cargobull. We’re delighted to work with them and we know operators are going to reap the benefits of working with quality maintenance providers who’ll keep their high-tech trailers in peak condition.”
